The Power of Floor Work Floor-based movement is fundamental to human mobility. Sitting on the floor, transitioning between positions, and moving close to the ground are natural human movements that modern life has eliminated. Returning to the floor restores lost capacity. The floor provides stable feedback for your body. It reveals asymmetries and restrictions that standing exercises hide. It enables positions that gravity makes difficult upright. Floor time is mobility training in its most direct form. Reclaim your relationship with the ground. Why Floor Work Matters Getting up and down from the floor predicts longevity better than many medical tests. Floor sitting maintains hip mobility that chair sitting destroys. Ground-based movement patterns build functional strength and flexibility simultaneously. Time on the floor is an investment in your long-term physical independence. Complete Floor Routine A comprehensive floor routine for total body mobility. 90/90 Hip Positions JME 143 Either extend one foot in front of the other or find a slightly elevated surface for your foot. Bend at the hips and rotate your upper body toward the floor. Find a gentle stretch in your hamstring and return to the starting position. Hip CARs JME 145 Standing, with your knee bent at 90 degrees, lift your leg up to find your end range of motion. Each rep, try to find more space to move your leg higher - but don't force anything. Listen to your body and find what works for you. Spine Mobility Flow JME 170 Find stability by holding onto the back of your chair or desk. Bend at your knee to raise your leg backward - as high as your are able to - and return to the floor. Thoracic Rotation JME 171 Sitting in your chair, raise one leg up and in front of you. Then, bend at your knee to find 90 degrees and then return to a straight position. Building Floor Time Start with a few minutes daily and gradually increase. Sit on the floor while watching TV.
