Mobility From Your Bed The bed provides a unique surface for mobility work. Its softness supports your body differently than the floor. Its location makes it accessible at the beginning and end of each day. For those with limited mobility or recovering from illness, the bed enables movement when other surfaces do not. Morning bed mobility clears overnight stiffness before you even stand. Evening bed mobility releases the day's accumulated tension before sleep. Both create bookends of movement around your day. Start and end your day with movement. When Bed Mobility Works Morning wake-up: Gentle movement before standing clears stiffness and prepares your body. Pre-sleep: Relaxing stretches help transition to restful sleep. Recovery: Those on bed rest or recovering from illness maintain movement safely. Low motivation days: When you cannot face the floor, the bed still works. Start your 14-day free trial to access bed-friendly programs. Bed Mobility Exercises Gentle exercises for your mattress. Lying Ankle Circles JME 103 Sitting in your chair, with your head facing the floor, internally rotate your foot. After internally rotating, lift that leg up and then lower. Lying Hip Circles JME 148 With your legs at shoulder-width apart, bend at your hips and rotate your upper body toward the floor. Find a gentle stretch in your hamstring and return to the standing position. Gentle Spine Movement JME 155 Stand with your legs in the formation as shown in the diagram. Either with your hands at your hips or out in front of you, rotate your upper body both left and right while maintaining the same leg position. Lying Shoulder Work JME 186 Sitting in your chair, extend one leg forward. Then, extend your upper body over that leg and hold for a stretch. Progression to Floor Bed exercises serve as a bridge to more demanding floor work. If you are recovering or just starting, bed exercises build capacity. As you progress, move to the floor for exercises that benefit from firmer surfaces. The bed remains available for mornings, evenings, and gentler days.
