Cool-down accelerates recovery. Stopping abruptly after intense exercise leaves the body in a stressed state. Blood pools in working muscles, waste products accumulate, and adaptation slows. This 5-minute routine transitions the body from exertion to recovery. Nine exercises maintain mobility while promoting circulation that clears metabolic waste. The routine progressively calms the nervous system. Use this routine after every workout. It optimizes the recovery that makes training effective. JME 94 Slowly bend forward and reach your hands toward the floor. 2. Side Body Stretch (30 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases lats and obliques worked during training. JME 151 Either sitting or standing, extend one arm up over your head. Bend toward the other side for a gentle stretch in your side body. Return to the middle and repeat. 3. Hamstring Stretch (30 seconds each side) Why it works: Maintains hamstring length after training. Prevents tightening. JME 173 Find a slightly elevated surface to rest your foot on. Then, once you have stability, bend at your hips and rotate your upper body toward the ground. Find a gentle stretch in your hamstring and return to the starting position. 4. Hip Flexor Mobilization (30 seconds each side) Why it works: Stretches hip flexors engaged during most exercises. JME 113 Place one knee on your chair and move that knee both forward and back to feel a stretch in the front of your leg. 5. Hip Internal Rotation (30 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases deep hip rotators engaged during lower body work. JME 111 Placing your knee on an elevated surface, rotate your upper body back toward that elevated leg. (This will be very difficult in the office - a bed is ideal for this exercise). 6. Seated Thoracic Rotation (30 seconds) Why it works: Restores spinal mobility after loaded movements. JME 150 Sitting in your chair, rotate your upper body both left and right. Don't do this too fast - find what works for you. 7. Behind-Head Elbow Movement (30 seconds) Why it works: Stretches chest and shoulders after pressing movements. JME 42 With your hands behind your head, extend your elbows forward and back. 8. Lateral Neck Flexion (20 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases upper trapezius engaged during training. JME 3 Tilt your head left then right toward your shoulder 9. Seated Forward Fold (30 seconds) Why it works: Final calming position. Activates parasympathetic recovery. JME 92 In your chair, bend your upper body forward and reach down toward the floor.
