Deep flexibility requires sustained holds. The nervous system resists quick stretches but adapts to prolonged positions. Extended holds create the tissue changes that produce lasting flexibility gains. This 15-minute routine emphasizes depth over breadth. Eleven exercises target the areas that respond best to sustained stretching. Longer holds replace more exercises for greater effect per movement. Use this routine when flexibility is your primary goal. The extended holds produce measurable range of motion improvements when practiced consistently. JME 8 Bring your hand to your head and tilt your head in the same direction. Move your hand away from your face and tilt your head in the other direction. 2. Seated Lateral Stretch with Anchor (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Maximum stretch through levator scapulae and upper trapezius. JME 12 Place one hand underneath your leg sitting in a chair and tilt your head toward that side. 3. Open Book Rotation (60 seconds each side) Why it works: Deep thoracic rotation with extended hold for lasting change. JME 152 Rest one hand either on the back of your chair or desk. With the other arm, rotate toward the ceiling and follow your fingertips with your eyes. Return to the middle and repeat. 4. Side Body Stretch (60 seconds each side) Why it works: Complete lateral chain stretch with sustained hold. JME 151 Either sitting or standing, extend one arm up over your head. Bend toward the other side for a gentle stretch in your side body. Return to the middle and repeat. 5. Behind-Back Hand Touch (60 seconds) Why it works: Multi-planar shoulder stretch for deep flexibility. JME 49 Try to touch your hands behind your back - with one arm coming from above and the other below. 6. Standing Forward Fold (90 seconds) Why it works: Extended posterior chain stretch allows tissue release. JME 94 Slowly bend forward and reach your hands toward the floor. 7. Hamstring Stretch (60 seconds each side) Why it works: Isolated hamstring lengthening with sustained hold. JME 173 Find a slightly elevated surface to rest your foot on. Then, once you have stability, bend at your hips and rotate your upper body toward the ground. Find a gentle stretch in your hamstring and return to the starting position. 8. Hip Flexor Mobilization (60 seconds each side) Why it works: Deep hip flexor stretch creates lasting length change. JME 113 Place one knee on your chair and move that knee both forward and back to feel a stretch in the front of your leg. 9. Hip Internal Rotation (60 seconds each side) Why it works: Deep hip rotator release reaching piriformis and deep six. JME 111 Placing your knee on an elevated surface, rotate your upper body back toward that elevated leg. (This will be very difficult in the office - a bed is ideal for this exercise). 10. Hip Hinge with Rotation (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Integrated hip and spine flexibility. JME 117 Resting your hands on either your chair or a wall in front of you, lift one leg in front of you up to 90 degrees, rotate your upper body down, and then reset. 11. Seated Forward Fold (60 seconds) Why it works: Final deep stretch integrating the entire posterior chain. JME 92 In your chair, bend your upper body forward and reach down toward the floor.
