Recovery determines training adaptation. The body repairs and strengthens during rest, not during workouts. Active recovery accelerates this process by promoting circulation without creating additional stress. This 10-minute routine provides optimal recovery stimulus. Eleven exercises maintain mobility and promote blood flow while keeping intensity low. The routine supports adaptation rather than interfering with it. Use this routine on rest days and after intense training sessions. It accelerates recovery while maintaining the movement quality your training develops. JME 3 Tilt your head left then right toward your shoulder 2. Chin Tuck (30 seconds) Why it works: Releases suboccipital tension accumulated during training. JME 6 Gently tuck your chin to your chest 3. Seated Thoracic Rotation (45 seconds) Why it works: Light spinal movement increases circulation without loading tissues. JME 150 Sitting in your chair, rotate your upper body both left and right. Don't do this too fast - find what works for you. 4. Side Body Stretch (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Gentle lateral stretch promotes recovery in the core and back. JME 151 Either sitting or standing, extend one arm up over your head. Bend toward the other side for a gentle stretch in your side body. Return to the middle and repeat. 5. Hip Circles (45 seconds) Why it works: Rhythmic lumbar movement promotes blood flow and reduces stiffness. JME 99 Hip circles. Basically move your hips in a circular motion like a hoola hoop. Circle does not have to be large - can be small and controlled. 6. Seated Forward Fold (60 seconds) Why it works: Calming position that promotes parasympathetic recovery. JME 92 In your chair, bend your upper body forward and reach down toward the floor. 7. Hamstring Stretch (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Maintains hamstring length and promotes circulation. JME 173 Find a slightly elevated surface to rest your foot on. Then, once you have stability, bend at your hips and rotate your upper body toward the ground. Find a gentle stretch in your hamstring and return to the starting position. 8. Hip Flexor Mobilization (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Keeps hip flexors mobile during recovery periods. JME 113 Place one knee on your chair and move that knee both forward and back to feel a stretch in the front of your leg. 9. Hip Internal Rotation (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases deep hip tension from training. JME 111 Placing your knee on an elevated surface, rotate your upper body back toward that elevated leg. (This will be very difficult in the office - a bed is ideal for this exercise). 10. Full Arm Circle (45 seconds) Why it works: Maintains shoulder mobility and promotes upper body circulation. JME 44 Starting with your hand at the side, bring your arm up, over your head, then back down to the side. 11. Calf Raise to Heel Rock (45 seconds) Why it works: Activates the calf pump to promote circulation and reduce swelling. JME 232 Starting flat on your feet, rise to stand on your toes. Fall back down to your flat feet and then stand on your heels. This movement should be fluid and stable.
