Athletic recovery determines performance. Training provides stimulus but adaptation happens during recovery. Athletes who recover better perform better and stay healthier longer. This 10-minute routine optimizes athletic recovery. Eleven exercises maintain mobility while promoting the circulation that clears metabolic waste and delivers nutrients. The routine bridges training and adaptation. Use this routine after training sessions and on rest days. Consistent recovery practice separates good athletes from great ones. Start Your 14-Day Free Trial The Complete 10-Minute Routine 1. Lateral Neck Flexion (30 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases upper trapezius engaged during athletic effort. JME 3 Tilt your head left then right toward your shoulder 2. Full Arm Circle (45 seconds) Why it works: Maintains shoulder mobility and promotes upper body circulation. JME 44 Starting with your hand at the side, bring your arm up, over your head, then back down to the side. 3. External Rotation at 90 Degrees (30 seconds) Why it works: Balances rotator cuff after upper body training. JME 47 With your arms at a 90 degree angle, rotate them both up and down - keeping your shoulders in the same position. 4. Seated Thoracic Rotation (45 seconds) Why it works: Restores spinal mobility after loaded movements. JME 150 Sitting in your chair, rotate your upper body both left and right. Don't do this too fast - find what works for you. 5. Side Body Stretch (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases lats and obliques worked during training. JME 151 Either sitting or standing, extend one arm up over your head. Bend toward the other side for a gentle stretch in your side body. Return to the middle and repeat. 6. Standing Forward Fold (60 seconds) Why it works: Decompresses the spine and stretches the posterior chain. JME 94 Slowly bend forward and reach your hands toward the floor. 7. Hamstring Stretch (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Maintains hamstring length after running and jumping. JME 173 Find a slightly elevated surface to rest your foot on. Then, once you have stability, bend at your hips and rotate your upper body toward the ground. Find a gentle stretch in your hamstring and return to the starting position. 8. Hip Flexor Mobilization (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases hip flexors engaged in most athletic movements. JME 113 Place one knee on your chair and move that knee both forward and back to feel a stretch in the front of your leg. 9. Hip Internal Rotation (45 seconds each side) Why it works: Releases deep hip rotators worked during athletic activity. JME 111 Placing your knee on an elevated surface, rotate your upper body back toward that elevated leg. (This will be very difficult in the office - a bed is ideal for this exercise). 10. Hip Hinge with Rotation (30 seconds each side) Why it works: Integrates hip and spine recovery. JME 117 Resting your hands on either your chair or a wall in front of you, lift one leg in front of you up to 90 degrees, rotate your upper body down, and then reset. 11. Calf Raise to Heel Rock (45 seconds) Why it works: Promotes lower leg circulation and reduces swelling. JME 232 Starting flat on your feet, rise to stand on your toes. Fall back down to your flat feet and then stand on your heels. This movement should be fluid and stable.
